Life isn’t always easy when you have four kids. If most families have two
children, well, we’re spending twice as much on food, education, doctor’s checkups, and damages around the house. Last year was pretty tough, I have to admit. We had to skimp a bit on some birthday and holiday presents last year. Our kids never complained, and never missed the nice things we bought for them before our money
situation started to turn sour.
Well, four months ago, I landed a big promotion at my company and a transfer to a more stable area with far better job security, so it came time to reward our children for the devotion they showed throughout our tough times and their understanding of every sacrifice that had to be made along the way.
So this year, for every birthday, we knew we couldn’t just grab the first toy that caught our attention. This time, it was going to need a bit more effort than that. We needed to know what the hottest toys were, to really make this year something special.
For Casey
Our six-year-old boy Casey has really taken an affinity to castles and knights and all things medieval. He’s fallen in love with dragon slaying and rescuing maidens in distress, so we’re pretty certain that nothing will make his day quite like having a noble knight’s castle in which to unleash his imagination and rule his kingdom.
Of every knight’s castle we looked at, the Playmobil Knight’s Castle singled itself out as our best choice.
What’s so Great About it?
Well, it comes complete with four figures to play with. When Casey has his three friends over they like to have free-for-all battles for supremacy. I couldn’t tell you how they decide which plastic figure is king, but that’s the wonderful thing about this set—it really gets a six-year-old’s imagination going, and is still appropriate for ages all the way up to twelve. There’s also a horse for epic quests to distant lands, and plenty of other accessories, weapons, and other tools of the trade needed for medieval fantasy.
The castle itself contains four keeps and includes a prison—where Casey’s friends go after he slays them in battle. There’s a catapult too, for the sieges when the fortress proves impenetrable. We get just as much of a kick watching him creatively invent new scenarios and battles every day, keeping the set fresh. He has as much fun on his own as he does playing with a group. We’ve begun to wonder sometimes just how talented a tactician he might have been had he actually lived in medieval times.
The best part for us is that the whole play set is portable. It folds right up and travels easily. We’ll be going on a nice vacation this summer, and we know there’s no way he would leave home without his new favorite toy.
Overall, the Playmobil Knight’s Castle has proven one of the most fun toys Casey has ever owned—and we get plenty of fun in watching and joining when he plays with it. This castle is fun for all ages.
